After-purchase support has been outstanding too. Andrew has been just as responsive after purchase as he was before.

I ordered a BoBike Jr. from Urkai recently (where else can you find things like this?) and they shipped it to expediently. Unfortunately, I must not have tightened the clamps enough during installation because on my first ride they eventually slid down until the seat was on my fender. Not good! Worse, the bolts wouldn't screw in anymore after that. Fortunately, a quick email to Urkai and they sent new clamps that arrived the same week. (And apparently not covered under manufacturer warranty, so Urkai went above-and-beyond.) Great service! If I'm ever out Burlington-way I'd love to stop by the shop.

Delivery was quick and professional and Andrew made sure to get us our bike in time for Christmas.

We purchased a cargo bike (backfiets long) from Urkai. We are very satisfied customers and enthusiastically recommend Andrew and his team at Urkai.

Communication about the status of our order could have been more forthcoming, but the occasional photo of our bike in the Azor factory kept us from wondering too much. Joseph at Urkai told us the delay was related to the suprising popularity of the electric-assist bakfiets model, which caught everybody (including Azor, the manufacturer) by surprise. Having now ridden our bike around town, I can now understand why everybody wants one. (The electric motor flattens hills like you wouldn't believe, and Shimano's implementation is so intuitive and clever.)

If you are looking for a European bike, I definitely recommend Urkai.

To mitigate the delay, Urkai also happily shipped us one item ahead of a time (a child seat ultimately intended for our cargo bike) so that we could use it around town on our other bikes before the cargo bike arrived. We appreciated this gesture. Urkai ships within Canada by Purolator, and our bike and other items arrived in perfect condition, within two days of Urkai shipping them.

The order took a long time to arrive. We placed the order with Urkai in mid-October 2016 and finally received the bike in mid-June 2017. (I.e., it took 8 months to arrive). It was absolutely worth the wait, and of course the bike had to be custom-built in the Netherlands and shipped to Canada (on a container ship).

We live in Ottawa, so dealt with Andrew exclusively by email and phone. The customer service was excellent. We asked many questions and always received prompt and helpful replies - even though it was during the busy holiday season.

I purchased an Azor omafiets from Urkai and had it shipped to Regina, SK. I bought it sight unseen, but the online reviews for these bikes were very good. I dealt with Joseph throughout the entire process by email. Ordering was easy and they offered online banking for payment which was convenient. I ordered in mid-July when they were low in stock, so I did have to wait for my bike to be built and shipped from the Netherlands. Delivery was originally estimated for end of August or the beginning of September. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the cargo ship and it had to return to Rotterdam for repairs. The new delivery estimate was then changed to early October. This was disappointing, but completely out of Urkai's control. I was prepared for a long wait, but I then got an email in mid-September that my bike was now in Canada and was on its way to me. That was a pleasant surprise. Shipping was very quick, only taking 4 business days. The bike arrived less assembled than I had expected, but it was very easy to put together. All that was needed was to attach the handlebars, seat post, pedals, front fender, front wheel, and then connect the lighting wires and front brake cable. When I had some assembly questions, Joseph was able to send some detailed photos of an assembled bike (I wasn't sure how the front cable housing was supposed to be routed down the fork) which were very helpful. The bike itself feels well made and looks great. The riding position is relaxed and comfortable and is quite fast once you get it up to speed. Hills and slopes are challenging but I also need to adjust the seat a bit and get accustomed to this bike.

When we visited Urkai before placing our order, Andrew was very helpful and let us test-ride his own personal electric-assist Bakfiets.nl cargo bike. I highly recommend arranging a test-ride before ordering one of these bikes. As soon as we tried Andrew's bike, we were sold.

Trying to shop here is a frustrating experience. The owner and staff are friendly enough and the bikes are excellent, but good luck if you want to test ride a bike. On any given day, their stock is limited, and they don't have many of the bikes they list on their web site. Plus, the staff's knowledge of how to properly size and fit a bike is surprisingly limited -- they tried to convince me that I'd happily ride a frame that was really too small. They seem to be focused more on selling whatever bikes they happen to have on hand than on finding the best bike for each customer.

We're the happy new owners of a Bakfiets.nl Cargo Bike Long with Shimano's "STEPS" electric-assist system, purchased from Urkai. Dealing with Urkai on the order of this custom bike, both in person and by email, was a great experience and I would recommend them unhesitatingly to those looking to buy an authentic, tried, tested, and true Dutch cargo bike.
